As a convention, we always uses the word “global” in our global template names e.g. Word global templates act like the add-ins used in PowerPoint and Excel. Template folders The template folder paths can only viewed and/or modified from Word but changing folder paths also affects PowerPoint and Excel. If you want to check (or change) the designated template folder locations, in Word, click File > Options and in the Advanced category scroll down to the General section and click the File Locations button. Provided the macro enabled templates are installed in a trusted folder, such as the user templates, workgroup templates or startup folder, then they should run without being blocked. Additionally, macros in macro-enabled templates that have been signed by their publisher with an authenticated digital certificate should also run. This template is to be used with the Commonwealth Two Stage Process handbook and Quick. Reference Guide to Two Stage Process. This template provides a general guide for Agencies. It is each Agency's responsibility to ensure that all information relevant to the project is supplied. Instructions to assist you to complete. Maybe you work for an IT company but, just as likely, you work in the IT department of a company that sells some other goods or services. So you, as an IT provider, will always be at a competitive disadvantage to getting your projects green-lit. Here's why you'll lose out to the line-of-business bosses: They will be able to project how much money the company is going to make based on their project, which is a lot sexier than how much your project is going to save. Here are some ideas to help level that playing field by showing what your IT projects are worth. MORE: What's Your Current State Cost? You'd be surprised how many companies -- big and mature enough to know better -- have no earthly clue how much they're spending on IT. While most of their information costs might reside in a shared services organization, each division might have its own shadow IT department. Some rogue individuals within these divisions might have sole access to enough computing horsepower to send a rocket to Mars, keep it in the kneeholes of their desks, and expensed it like a box of paper clips. So right away, let's just admit that this top-line number is unknown and unknowable. Fortunately for you, it's also irrelevant. So how do you determine what is relevant? What's relevant is what's likely to change. If your goal is to swap out your Unix-on-RISC servers for Linux-on-x86 blades, you have to ask: Where is this going to save the company money or, conversely, cost the company money? Server depreciation? Server maintenance? Direct labor? Maybe -- depends on your assumptions about whether one system administrator can manage more Linux images than Unix. Application development or database administration? Probably not. No, if you're comfortable with the disk platform you have and no amount of server swapping is going to effect it. You need to focus on the right layers and the right domains. Otherwise, you'll drive yourself crazy gathering data you don't need to make your case. Figure 1: Layers and domains One more thing: You'll be making assumptions going out for, typically, three to five years. Things don't stay the same, costs least of all. You need to take guesses about such cost drivers as: • Workload capacity growth • Software inflation • Hardware price performance • Labor inflation • Process improvement These are typically expressed as percentages, as in 'Software will cost five percent more each year.' Some change might be specific to a certain year: 'Capacity will have to grow 40 percent in Year 1 as the current merger is finalized, then 15 percent per year subsequently.' Whenever you make assumptions, it's a good idea not to own them. Throughout the process of crafting a business case, it's always a good idea to check back regularly with the project executive to get buy-in. And, as you get closer to the end and your projections aren't what the boss had hoped for, stand ready to change those assumptions -- at the exec's whim, not your own. Determining Target State Costs Your target state is a technological discussion, not a financial one. You can't model anything financially until you've modeled it technically. But once your team has decided on the high-level design, you can make some projections about why it would be cheaper to run the target state than the as-is. Here are the key metrics that you can leverage to quantify the savings: Key Metrics Hardware: Annual depreciation or lease cost per device; annual cost for third-party maintenance (maintenance might be $0 while the box is under warranty, but it balloons after that, and explodes when the box goes off OEM support). Software: Resource units -- these might be per image, per instance, per user, per CPU, per core or whatever other algorithm the software publisher makes up; if it's an enterprise license, then no matter what you do you won't save a dime on that package. Labor: The cost to manage a device; take the fully loaded cost of employing the individual fulltime, then divide by the number of devices she is responsible for managing. Facilities: Rackprint; a rack takes up almost 30 square feet including walkway and environmental space, so figure out how much it costs to lease or depreciate one square foot of raised floor space and multiply by 30. Also, take a look at the devices' specs and discover how many watts they burn, then assume that they do it 8,760 hours/year (that is, all of them). Load and apply a personal template. Themes and Slide Masters PowerPoint uses two approaches to control the appearance of slides in a presentation: • Themes control the colors, fonts, effects and background style of all the slides in a presentation. Most themes include variants that are identical in terms of general design but provide different options for colors and fonts. • Slide masters control the layout, master style and static slide elements of specific types of slides. This lesson will look more closely at the use of themes. Applying a Theme Applying a theme to a presentation is a quick way to change the appearance of all your slides. Try Microsoft Edge A fast and secure browser that's designed. Featured PowerPoint Templates and. (widescreen) PowerPoint. Feathered PowerPoint. Mesh PowerPoint. Hi, You can not delete master slide layouts while they are in use. So, if there are a selection of master slides you do not want in your template - make sure that. Let's start with a blank presentation. To apply a theme, select the Design ribbon. On the left side, you see a panel with the available themes. Click on the More button on the right side of the panel to see all the available themes. When you click on one of the themes, the design is applied to all the slides in your presentation. A theme changes the fonts, the colors, the background styles and the placements of elements of each type. When you have applied a theme, it is a good idea to look at some of the different types of slides to see what the design looks like. For example, the title slide is often very different from the other slides in a theme. Applying Variants Once you have a found a theme that you like, you can make some minor changes to the design by using variants. You can find the Variants for a particular theme on the Design ribbon, next to the panel for themes. Variants allow you to change the fonts and colors but within the same general design. The placement of elements and the background graphics remain the same. Only a handful of variants are shown in the panel. To see more options, click on the More button on the right side of the panel. This allows you to select from more options for things like colors and fonts. Selecting from the list of color palettes ensures that colors remain coordinated throughout your presentation. You can make further changes by customizing the colors. This brings up the Create New Theme Colors dialog where you can select up to 12 different theme colors. This gives you more detailed options than you normally need, but it can be used to create a consistent look based on the company's colors, for example. If you create customized theme colors, these are saved with the presentation. Similarly, you can create a set of customized fonts for all the text in your presentation. These are also saved with your presentation. If you have spent a great deal of time developing a look and feel you are really happy with, you can save your work as a new theme for later use. Select the Design ribbon and click on the More button in the themes panel. This brings up the option to Save Current Theme. This brings up a dialog where you can save the theme of your current presentation. Once the theme has been saved, you can use it in a different presentation. Formatting Background Each theme uses a different background style, but you can also create your own background. Let's start off with a blank presentation. ![]() To modify the background, select the Design ribbon and click on the Format Background option. This brings up a new panel to format the background. For example, you can apply a solid fill with a different color. Or use a gradient fill with different settings. You can use a preset gradient or modify the detailed settings. Once you have found an option you like, you can click on Apply to All to apply the current background style to all the slides in the presentation. ![]() ![]() ![]() |
